The darkest bread of the six — near-black, dense and moist, in a green and white label. True pumpernickel, slow-baked so the rye darkens and sweetens on its own. Square slices, vacuum sealed. Serving suggestion shows cream cheese, prosciutto, cucumber and pepper.

Six ingredients: whole kernel rye, water, whole rye flour, salt, yeast, malt extract. The malt extract is the only thing separating it from the Whole Rye — it deepens the colour and adds the faint sweetness pumpernickel is known for. Wheat free, so it works for a wheat-avoiding customer, though rye still contains gluten. Strong, sour-sweet and unmistakably German; the classic pairing is butter and smoked fish.
